Spring doesn’t stand for the season, we know it’s December and down our end of the world, summer started long ago.

In Brisbane, spring is a hill, a wood, a field. Spring is an ethereal body of water. It makes you jump when it’s on a trampoline.

Spring refers to the metal coils in the mattress you sleep on top of, and the little wire that makes your pen click. Spring squeaks when you’re having a good time.

Spring means to originate or be born from something, like when October rolls around and the jacarandas spring into bloom overnight. You awake to find the roads caked in purple icing.

Spring stands for the spring in your step when you feel the warmer weather coming on, bringing with it electric air and afternoons spent by the sea.

Maybe it’s just that we live in the past, and aren’t ready to move onto summer. That’s probably it.
